As literacy week came around educators and students at CBS began their preparations for the prestigious event. The English department and the library planned a 2 week project for the students which both developed new skills and strengthened existing ones. The program entailed 6 steps compiled of the following:

1. Two students from Grade 8 read stories to Grade 1 students.

2. "Drop and read". which was an activity that students had to stop whatever they were doing and to start reading a novel of their choice.

3. "Book review". The third step in the programme allowed the students to describe (in their own words) what they had read in their book and to present it in a well-structured manner.

4. "Script writing". During this process students had to create a script (dialog) which would be used in step 6.

5. "Creation of props and sets". During this phase, students had the opportunity to create their own backgrounds and helped them to improve their teamwork skills.

6. "Performing". Once the students had completed the above steps they were allowed to rehearse for their big show that was done in front of the entire MYP.

The duration of the performance was spread over a period of two days. At the end of the project ALL students had put in a lot of effort into their scripts, costumes, props and acting and this was shown in the acts that they performed.

Overall it was a successful and fun project. Well done to all the students who took part, your efforts have been noticed.
