Let’s usher in a New Year together!
Winter turns to spring and a New Year begins. Our CBS students and teachers ushered in a new semester. On February 12, 2019, we gathered in the school theater, and the opening ceremony started with the Chinese national anthem.
Today in CBS we had our opening ceremony which was hosted by Jack Zhang and Becky Zhu from primary school. On behalf of the school board, Ms. Cao Hui, the Principal of the school, sent New Year's greetings to all the teachers and students. By reviewing the history of CBS in 2018, she thanked everyone for their efforts in the past year and congratulated them on their achievements. Through a video Ms.Cao told us about the importance of time. That time will never return and we should take the initiative to adapt, embrace change and keep moving forward. By doing so we can we have more incredible opportunities in life. As the New Year begins Ms.Cao left us with two words to think about “Love” and “Perseverance”. She looks forward to our steady progress, joint efforts, and pursuit of our dreams!
Next, the school gave awards to outstanding students from G1 to G12. Students Candy Wang of G5, Hansel Chen of G8 and Carl Gao of G12 made speeches on behalf of the award-winning students. Their speeches were full of hope and aspirations for the new semester, and they called on their fellow classmates to work hard for their dreams.
In order to let students have better understanding of Chinese traditional culture, our first week of the second semester has been dubbed "Chinese Culture Week". We will hold a series of activities on campus, such as appreciation of Wuxi Opera, reading/ sharing of Chinese traditional culture, and lectures on Changzhou traditional culture. At the opening ceremony, CBS invited Mr. Wang Shengbiao, a national first-class actor, vice President of Changzhou Opera Theater, and Ms. Chen Min, an excellent young actress. They performed Wuxi Opera to the students. It is not only an artistic act to express emotions, but also a kind of cultural inheritance, which enables students to feel the charm of traditional culture while learning art and enhance their love for their hometown.
It is a new fresh start. In this second semester the CBS students will explore, inquire, and persevere together as they reach their dreams!
