Emma McDonnell

I come from the lovely city, Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland. I have over 10 years experience in international education mostly based in South Korea and China. I have been in China since 2014 and I am delighted to be part of CBS. My personal philosophy on teaching is we need to help children develop a curiosity and love of learning so that they gather knowledge and experiences in every aspect of their life. " What Makes CBS Foundation Different"

CBS is a breath of fresh air. It has a beautiful campus, with many amenities and resources available to all students such as sports fields, libraries, theatres and swimming pools to name a few. It is a lovely place to just walk around and there are plenty of opportunities and places to give children outdoor learning opportunities for sports, science, art and more.  

There is a true sense of community which spans from the first year of pre-school to the last year of high school. With the whole school sharing the same campus it makes the transitions between school levels easy and smooth for students. Before foundation students move to primary school they have the opportunity to explore the school and become familiar with their new surroundings. 

Small class sizes in CBS, with two homeroom teachers per classroom ensures that each students’ needs are met, such a tailored approach to education and teacher / student interaction time is truly rare.

Our curriculum is student centred, teaching students to build their communication, social, self-management, thinking and research skills. Tools they can use all throughout their life. Different types of learners are catered for and celebrated.

CBS foundation offers a high quality bilingual environment with one native English speaking homeroom teacher and one Chinese homeroom teacher. All of our Chinese homeroom teachers are also fluent in English so students have a lot of exposure and immersion in the English language.

We consult and cooperate with the primary school teachers so when it is time to say goodbye to our students as they progress to primary school we know they are ready for the challenges of grade 1 and are at, or exceeding the level they need to be at.
