Chinese Culture Week

CBS students are encouraged to think and act locally and globally. We hope that our students can not only have an international perspective, but also inherit and carry forward Chinese traditional culture, and cultivate a sense of national pride and aesthetics. With the opening of school and the arrival of the Lantern Festival, the theme activities of "Chinese Culture Week" held by our school also kicked off.

Foundation

The opening of the Spring Festival and the Winter Olympics once again set off the celebration of traditional culture all over the country. Teachers also took advantage of Traditional Culture Week activities to bring traditional Chinese culture closer to  the young learners. Foundation students celebrated the Lantern Festival together by learning about the origin of the Lantern Festival and its customs, cooking “Yuanxiao” - a traditional Chinese seasonal meal, under the guidance of teachers and enjoying the taste of the festival.



At the same time, each class held their own activities. The children of Pre-class learned the story and the order of the Chinese Zodiac. The children of the K1 class made lanterns and played wise and fun lantern riddles. The children of K2 class had an opportunity to feel the charm of the drama play and the pleasure of the lion dance.



PYP


Early in the morning the entrance of the primary school was very busy! Dressed in traditional Chinese outfits, the students received New Year red envelopes that were carefully prepared by the department Principal Ms. Coco and Ms. Karen. To celebrate the fifteenth day of the Lantern Festival, each class held a get-together, knowledge contest, and made dumplings. The dragon and lion dance team formed by foreign teachers surprised the students. After the class celebration, all the students of primary school sang "Sheng Pi Zi" in unison. The dancing notes will be passed on to the Chinese culture at home and abroad.



In the afternoon, a variety of game booths let students experience the childhood memories of the teachers. Pinball, rubber band skipping, stone grasping, flower rope turning, ice sugar gourd, pot-throwing, charades, and ring toss. The students along with the teachers shuttled between the games and had a lot of fun!



MYP

The Literati of ancient China vividly displayed the brightness and jollification of the Lantern Festival to us with beautiful poems. In order to carry on the excitement and promote the traditional culture, MYP teachers and students participated in the Lantern Festival Riddle Contest. There were 140 riddles hanging under the small lanterns. The students were very busy weaving their way between the "riddle palace" and the “answer zone” solving the riddles as much as possible to get their favorite gifts.

During the Chinese Cultural Week, MYP students participated in the Culture Quiz in Houses. The content of the competition covers "interesting idioms", "words to poetry", and "cultural common sense". During the quiz, the intense atmosphere echoed the competitive sense of the Winter Olympics. Finally dragons won the championship of this event, and the participants of this group received the mystery boxes as prizes. The activities of the Chinese Cultural Week are not only interesting, but also provide a stage to display students' knowledge reserves. A series of cultural activities have ignited the students' high fighting spirit in the New Year, and also practiced the mission of inheriting the culture naturally.

DP

As a person who lives and studies in Changzhou, it is an important task for everyone in Changzhou to tell changzhou stories well, spread Changzhou culture well, and show a rich, diverse and inclusive Changzhou. It is our mission and responsibility as IB learners to tell the stories of China well, to spread the voice of China well, and to present the true, three-dimensional and comprehensive China.


In the Chinese Culture Week, DP students fully explored the local quality culture, aiming to promote the traditional Chinese culture and changzhou local culture.In the morning of February 18th, DP curriculum department teachers and students carried out a field investigation and visit in groups. In the afternoon of February 18th, they collected the research results and shared the research works in Room101.In the process of inquiry and learning, students have a strong sense of identity with local culture in Changzhou, and enhance their cultural confidence as students in Changzhou. This cultural week activities, DP curriculum department, give full play to the cultural and social education function.



On this occasion, DP Curriculum Department invited Principal Li Yanan to observe the students' works presentation, and awarded to the advanced students in the first semester of 2021-2022.



All these activities of the Cultural Week made children feel the atmosphere of traditional festivals, guided them to understand the folklore activities, deepen the understanding of Chinese traditional festivals, and get a precious cultural imprint in their young hearts. Most importantly, Chinese traditional culture and traditional virtues will continue to be passed on to the students.
