International Curriculum Chemistry Education Forum 2021 was held at Ulink College of Shanghai on Nov.20th (last Saturday). The theme of the forum is "Teaching Design of Chemical Experiments". Mr. Lei Dong, IBDP Chemistry teacher of CBS, participated in the forum as a speaker, gave a speech on the theme of ‘Innovation of methodology when guiding IA and EE for DP candidates’, and held Q&A session for international curriculum Chemistry teachers and technicians.
In the keynote speech, Mr. Lei Dong first explained the manifestations of methodology in IA and EE, and the points of emphasis and differences in marking criteria. Then, combining with teaching examples, Mr. Dong shared how to consciously cultivate students' innovative thinking in the process of teaching and guiding research. For example, how to use diversified means to quantify data; how to guide the problems observed in life to develop into research questions; how to use simple apparatus to accurately control variables; how to quantify the data that cannot be measured directly through rigorous logic. Mr. Dong not only answered the practical confusion of the present teachers, but also expanded their thinking on teaching and research guiding, with his clear logic, scientific and rigorous presentation, solid theoretical foundation, combined with rich teaching examples.
This International Curriculum Chemistry Education Forum provides a platform for international curriculum Chemistry teachers and technicians to exchange their teaching reflection and practical experience, jointly discuss the common problems encountered in international Chemistry education, stimulate the inspiration of each other to pay attention to cutting-edge issues, and provide reference and possibility for solving problems in teaching methods and experience. Mr. Dong's keynote speech in this forum is not only the crystallization of his front-line teaching and marking experience of many years, but also a dedicated practice to lead other teachers to complement each other and improve the quality of Chemistry education together.
