On February 25, to strengthen the interaction between schools and promote the joint development of the two schools, five teachers from Hefei Xinhua Public School and the IB general coordinator Wolly Wang visited CBS. They had research and exchange activities with teachers from the PYP and MYP.
At PYP, The group first observed a G1 UOI inquiry class. The class given by Ms. Michelle and Ms. Serena was a lively class, students observed, thought, discussed, and finally demonstraited new knowledge. The students developed thinking techniques and improved their group work. Then, Mr. Jhon from Grade 3 gave us a wonderful English lesson. The students' confident expression and active thinking impressed the visiting teachers. We hosted an open class today to share how we integrate the unit of inquiry into our English class with other schools. The students participated in activities that allowed them to put the grammar structure and vocabulary they had acquired this week into practice. While working on various inventions, the four skills were merged into various activities. The class concluded with students inventing their own creations.
After lunch, the visiting team from Xinhua Public School, the teaching management team of primary school and the subject leaders had in-depth discussions. The topics of the debate were how to better formulate curriculum to meet the national requirements, how to implement and integrate the framework of the national curriculum and how to effectively implement bilingual teaching.
In the middle school, the teachers of Xinhua Public School learned about the community project, social action and interdisciplinary practice in CBS. They also visited the CBS Mental health consultation room, and observed the ATL class and Chinese class.
After classes, teachers from the two schools conducted discussions on implementing the IB program and course teaching. Principal Nancy Li introduced the current development status of CBS. Teachers exchanged their experience in education, and the discussions were lively and benefited a lot. In the end, it made an in-depth discussion on the upcoming collaborative teaching and research activities of the two schools. It proposed establishing an education and teaching alliance between the two schools.
