“We need to live in a culture that values and respects and looks up to and idolizes women as much as men.”
- Emma Watson
International Women’s Day is a global day on March 8th each year to celebrate the historical, cultural and political achievements of women. This day supports taking action against gender inequality around the world and appreciating the efforts of women as valuable members in today’s society.
CBS PYP students and teachers celebrated this wonderful day by participating in various special activities per grade.
Grade 1A students made a folding flower card for a special woman in their lives. The learners wrote a sentence or two inside the card as a surprise to their special woman who they are grateful for.
G1B students talked about the characteristics that make women special and how they are similar to those of super heroes. They then each made 2 key rings for the special “Super Women” in their lives.
Second graders did a presentation about women's day and the importance of it. Students then made a poster with positive adjectives to describe women and made flowery cards with wishes for the female teachers in CBS to show their admiration.
Third graders spent time making paper bouquet shaped of hearts, leaves, tulips and wrote wishes to dear moms and grandmas. They also made colored Women’s Day booklets to honor women in their lives. Every step is full of LOVE. It was followed by watching a video about famous women who made incredible inventions and discoveries that changed the world.
Upper grades were tasked to research and write about women they thought were inspirational. The goal was to inquire deeper by finding some facts and dates of the achievements. They focused on both national and international women heroes who inspire them a lot. In order to fulfil their thoughts students watched a video about the 10 women inventors in history and how their inventions influenced society. This was followed by a discussion and brainstorm of “What makes a woman beautiful?” and in groups they collaborated further in the design of posters around this question with word that describe beauty of a woman.
Based on that they put down all their ideas and impressions on the paper by illustrating them in a creative way.
A wonderful day was summarized by a surprise poem from students and teachers that is as beautiful as all women in the world. Happy Women’s Day!
