Dear teachers and students,

Good morning! I am Roy from DP-1, and this is my classmate Candy. It is an honor for us to have this speech in today’s flag-raising ceremony about patriotism.

In 2021, we experienced the surge of pandemic and eventually realized that prosperity came from the support of public.

In 2021, it marked the 90th anniversary of September eighteenth incident and the 100th anniversary of the founding of China Communist Party. Those tough memories which did not kill Chinese people in the past will make us stronger in the present and future.

Roman poet Ovidius Naso once said “Our native soil draws all of us, by I know not what sweetness, and never allows us to forget”. We’ll never forget what home seems like to us. Using a word from Asian dragon’s house slogan, the imprint of home is just like a dynamite. The farther we go, the more homesick we’d feel. At a certain point, it will bring us to the origin where we started this journey.

Three weeks ago, Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou left Vancouver on a flight for China on Friday afternoon. After 1028 days of detention, she managed to return home and reunite with her family. This does not only demonstrate her perseverance, but it also symbolizes a great leap of China’s diplomacy and world status.

Born in a country with more than 5000 years of history, many Chinese people like Meng Wanzhou showed their faith in this country even in its darkest time, and this mentality will be passed down from generation to generation.

As the younger generation, we should be aware that the future is ours, and it is our job to take over the responsibility and participate in the development of our home country.

That's all for our speech. Thank you!
