Not all learning takes place in the classroom.
Young people need to explore outside the classroom, get to know society, nature, and take some responsibility for the world.
Young people need to explore outside the classroom, get to know society, nature, and take some responsibility for the world.
From December 19th to 23rd, 2020, the students of CBS started a wonderful journey of outdoor exploration in Nanshan bamboo sea of Liyang, and successfully completed the bronze course of Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award - Adventurous Journey (referred to as "DOE Award").
In five days, the students not only learned basic outdoor skills and pre-trip planning, but also challenged themselves, helped each other, cooperated with each other, explored and gained experiences which will better themselves.
Adventurous Journey is an important part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
Participants need to conduct an independent, self-sufficient, purposeful and challenging outdoor exercise in the countryside in groups. Through camping and study activities, young people's field survival skills and teamwork spirit can be cultivated and improved.
The Adventurous Journey of the bronze course of CBS adopts the complete learning mode of "campus theoretical study before departure - practice journey - plan preparation – journey assessment - summary and reflection", so that students can grow up in experience, explore in nature and better themselves.
Skill learning
During the study of campus theory, the team initially integrated and learned the outdoor knowledge such as basic outdoor equipment, five preparations before traveling, the use of topographic map and compass, the use of mobile navigation, the prevention and treatment of common risks in the field, and LNT environmental protection rules.
Learn outdoor knowledge, set common goals, and apply the concept of teamwork through the whole journey.
Practice journey
In order to make students familiar with outdoor knowledge and skills through practical operation, it is necessary to find the punch point in the park and complete the tasks on the punch point, including tent building and dismantling; The use of outdoor stoves; the use of field azimuth measurement and three-step method; outdoor environmental first-aid operation; outdoor environmental protection; making travel purpose; outdoor knowledge Q&A…. The outdoor practice journey is educational and these skills benefit the students a lot and better prepare for the challenges in life in the future.
Planning and preparation
A good plan is half the success, and it is also the key factor to ensure the quality of activities.
The team will learn to make detailed and thorough travel plans and make full preparations to cultivate a good sense of environmental protection.
Journey Assessment
During the two-day and one-night field trip, the students measured every inch of land in the bamboo sea of Nanshan by challenging their physical fitness, endurance and teamwork.
The Students climbed all over the mountains with support from each other and walked through this unforgettable journey.
The weather is very cold, but during the journey, teachers and classmates accompanied each other, and the team is full of warmth.
Bamboo forest, meadow, soil, insects… All these natural things are full of power, driving the students' senses, and unconsciously paving the simple, detached and romantic life background.
In the process of adventurous journey, the students not only enjoyed the joy of walking, but also exercised their teamwork ability in mutual help and support, and honed their strong will in the process of constantly overcoming difficulties.
The experience is extraordinary, the challenge is extraordinary, and the reward is extraordinary. For many students, the two-day and one-night adventurous journey may be the first time in their life, and the first step out of the outdoor will become a flash point and an unforgettable experience in their memory.
Challenge the DOE Award, and have a different experience.
