CBS PYP Online Math Class
2022.03.29

During the epidemic, PYP's online math classroom activities were still rich and interesting. On the first day of the epidemic, which coincided with "Pi Day", students of all grades learned about "π" through various activities and used their favorite methods. Celebrated Pi Day. In the next two weeks of online classes, PYP students still learned a lot. Let's take a look!

Last week the International Grade one students learned about halves. They practiced dividing shapes, objects, sets and numbers into two halves. They were then asked to make a short video of themselves dividing two things at home into halves. Students are also learning about patterns. They practiced making and identifying patterns during the online lessons. They were encouraged to inquire about the patterns in their homes and take pictures of patterns they found at home and discuss it in class.

The Chinese Grade one students learned about the numbers up to 100. They researched the patterns of the one hundred table and learned to estimate the numbers of objects. By learning the composition of numbers, students knew how to estimate the number within 100. After class,we mainly strengthened the number sense and estimation awareness by estimating how many beans in a handful of beans.

G2A students focused on understanding the clock in the mirror and the connection between hours, minutes and seconds, and gained a deeper understanding of time units through hands-on operations. At the same time, on Pi Day, some students used items in their lives to display Pi, and some students made related posters.

G3 students have learnt mixed operations in their online math class, mastering the order of operations for the four operations. They also made posters about Pi-related mathematicians related to Pi Day, and some students made and tasted delicious Apple Pie at home with their parents!

G5 students have explored the circle. While reading carefully, they deeply understood how to calculate circumference, and also, they were inspired to explore the circle area.

Although the students and teachers are in different time and space, the online interaction makes our online classroom more interesting. The epidemic will eventually end and we are waiting for you to come back in the sunny campus.
