INTRODUCTION OF CURRICULUM

Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students from Grades 6-10. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to be creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global encouragement——essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders.


The CBS MYP curriculum is an integrated curriculum under the IB framework which incorporates global contexts with a focus on concept-driven and skill-based teaching and learning, including:


Eight Subject Groups


Language and literature (Chinese, English)

Language acquisition (English, Chinese)

Individuals and society (Integrated humanity, History, Geography, Business) 

Science (General science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry) 

Mathematics (Chinese Maths, English Maths)

Arts (Drama, Visual arts, Music)

Physical and health education (PE, Mental health)

Design (Computer design)



CHARACTERISTICS OF CURRICULUM
INTERDISCIPLINARY UNIT
In the MYP, teachers plan an interdisciplinary unit that enables students to explore simultaneously two or more subject groups.
SERVICE AS ACTION
In CBS, students are encouraged to take part in service as action along with their learning journey. Service activities are planned and practiced in and outside the school community.
GLOBAL-CONTEXT
The Global Context provides the depth of exploration into global events, situations and circumstances which makes the learning for the students meaningful.
